Gokgoz leads Turkey to Tunisia whitewash

The Turks top their group; Tunisia remain winless

Podgorica, Montenegro, 13 June, 2015 – Turkey beat Tunisia 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-18) to go top of their FIVB World League pool after an impressive performance inspired by Gokhan Gokgoz and Baturalp Burak Gungor.

Tunisia started the better of the two sides, running up an early lead, with Ben Othmen Miladi Mohamed Ali looking sharp. But superb serving from Turkey’s Samet Gunes got them back into it, and with Gokhan Gokgoz killing and serving well, they saved three set points and edged the set 26-24.

The narrow loss of set one seemed to deflate Tunisia, who capitulated in the second set. Amid some great rallies, Turkey ran up a big lead – with Burak their key attacker - and took the first of six set points to win 25-18. And Gokgoz was in the points as Turkey again outclassed their opposition in set three, winning 25-18 to take the set and top their group.

Gokgoz was the top scorer for the Turkey with 14 points (Burak clocked 13), while Marouen Garci got 9 for Tunisia. Read the match text commentary here
