China elude Greece in tie-break set

Rao Shuhan scored the final point in the match that gave China the 3-2 victory over Greece in Pool G of the FIVB Volleyball World League

Tepic, Mexico, June 13, 2015 – China showed outstanding team effort to escape the tight five-set thriller against Greece 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 30-28, 15-13) in Pool G of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Auditorio de la Gente on Saturday.

China endured another close tie-break encounter but their players showed modest scoring from Zhi Yuan and Zhang Chen, who scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, while others collectively contributed to their victory. Greek scorers Rafail Koumentakis and Athanasios Protopsaltis registered big numbers on the board with 22 and 18 points, respectively.

Greece gained a 2-1 set advantage as China struggled on offence and defence in the third set. Greece led in the fourth set but could not close the match as China fought them point-by-point in the end game for a 30-28 finish and extend the match to a deciding set.

Both teams tried to gain edge but were forced to play with a trade in points until a service error put China in the lead at 14-12. China secured victory 15-13 from Rao Shuhan’s great spike.
