World League Week 5 preview - Pool F

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2015 - Debutants Montenegro are making
their first FIVB Volleyball World League appearance after they earned qualification
by winning the Euro League.

Pool F: Country specific statistics
Tunisia

· Tunisia made their debut in the World League in 2014, finishing in 27th and last place.
· They have won only one of their six matches played in 2014, a 3-2 win over Mexico.
· That sole win in the competition came on home soil in Tunis. Tunisia eyeing their first World League win away from home as they will play their first three group matches in Montenegro and their last three in Turkey.

Puerto Rico
· Puerto Rico will participate in their third World League after 2011 and 2014. In 2011 they finished in 16th place and in 2014 in 27th place.
· In 2011, Puerto Rico failed to win any of their 12 World League matches. Last year they won two of their six matches in the competition.
· One of their two World League victories came away from home in Košice. Puerto Rico will play all of their 2015 group matches away from home.

Turkey
· Turkey will partake in their second World League after making their debut last year. They finished in 22nd place in 2014, second place in Group 3 behind Cuba.
· Turkey won five of their eight matches so far at the World League. They have by far the best winning percentage of all teams participating in Group 3 (62.5%). Spain follows with 37.6%.
· The Final Four of Group 3 was held in Turkey last year. Turkey beat Slovakia in the semifinal (3-0), but were beaten in the final by Cuba in five sets. The second week of play in Pool F will be held in Turkey.

Montenegro
· Montenegro is one of two teams making their debut in the World League alongside Kazakhstan.
· Montenegro will organise the first week of play for Pool F this year in Podgorica.
· Last year's debutants Belgium, Mexico, Slovakia, Tunisia and Turkey all won at least one match on home soil.

Pool F: Head-to-head
Puerto Rico v Turkey (June 12)
· Puerto Rico and Turkey will meet for the first time in the World League.
· Puerto Rico's only World League wins came against teams representing Europe. A five-set win against Slovakia and Spain.
· Turkey have played NORCECA sides five times in 2014, winning two and losing three. They beat Mexico in straight sets and Cuba in four. Two of their three defeats came in five sets.

Montenegro v Tunisia (June 12)
· These teams will meet for the first time in the World League as Montenegro are making their debut.
· Tunisia are eyeing their first win against European opposition as they were defeated twice by Turkey in 2014.
· The height of Montenegro is on average 199.6 cm while Tunisia's average height reaches 193 cm.

Turkey v Tunisia (June 13)
· Turkey and Tunisia will meet for the third time in the World League.
· Turkey won both previous World League meetings with a 3-1 scoreline.
· These teams also met at the 1958 European Championship with Turkey winning in straight sets.

Montenegro v Puerto Rico (June 13)
· These teams will meet for the first time in the World League as Montenegro are making their debut.
· Puerto Rico have only one player over 200 cm (Maurice Torres) while Montenegro have 16 players over 200 cm. The average height of Montenegro is 199.6 cm and the average height of Puerto Rico is 189.9 cm.
· Bozidar Cuk (MNE) will celebrate his 23rd birthday on the day of the match.

Tunisia v Puerto Rico (June 14)
· Tunisia and Puerto Rico will meet for the first time in the World League.
· Tunisia's only World League victory coming into the 2015 edition was against a NORCECA side, a 3-2 win against Mexico.
· Puerto Rico beat Tunisia in straight sets at the 2007 World Cup. Tunisia prevailed in five sets in their 2006 World Championship meeting.

Montenegro v Turkey (June 14)
· These teams will meet for the first time in the World League as Montenegro are making their debut.
· Turkey have won their only previous World League meeting with European opposition, a straight sets win against Slovakia.
· Turkey's team (27 years, 303 days) is on average more than two years older than Montenegro's team (25 years, 102 days).
