Fragkos stars in Greece’s epic comeback in fifth set

Greece celebrate their 3-2 victory over Slovakia

Tepic, Mexico, June 14, 2015 – Andreas-Dimitrios Fragkos registered 19 markers in an outstanding turnaround of pace in Pool G of the FIVB Volleyball World League as Greece made a 3-2 (20-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 19-17) win over Slovakia at the Auditorio de la Gente on Sunday.

Fragkos guided his team to victory with 17 attacks and two blocks, while team-mates Apostolos Armenakis and Rafail Koumentakis scored 14 and 12 points, respectively. Slovakians Milan Bencz and Emanuel Kohut contributed 22 and 15 points, respectively, on a losing effort.

Slovakia would have ended it in the third set after a strong finish in the first two sets, but Greece toppled them in the third frame with solid plays, which they sustained until the end.

The fourth set was a struggle for both sides that resulted to a series of deadlocks and lead changes. Greece finally broke loose on two blocks by Fragkos to end the fourth set 25-20. In the fifth set, Greece and Slovakia engaged in a point-by-point duel that lasted at deadlock 17-all until Slovakia missed a serve and Greece made a huge block 19-17.
