Garci guides Tunisia to first 2015 World League win

Tunisia spiked and defended better on the day

Podgorica, Montenegro, 14 June, 2015 – Tunisia beat Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19) to win their first FIVB World League match of the season.

The African side began strongly, winning their first set of the FIVB World League so far this year thanks to an extraordinary mid-set run of 10 points in a row. With Marouane Garci and Ismail Moalla playing extremely well, they secured nine set points, and won the fourth one, to win 25-17.

Puerto Rico turned the tables in set two, with Roman Mannix particularly influential on serve as they took the set 25-17. Marouen Garci and Ismail Moalla scored well for Tunisia, but with Maurice Torres and Steven Morales of Puerto Rico finding a rhythm, they prevailed 25-20. But Tunisia, with Garci outstanding, really took control from that point on, winning sets three and four with relative ease, as the Puerto Ricans made too many mistakes.

Garci was the match’s top scorer by a significant margin, with 28 points. Torres and Hector Soto got 14 points each for Tunisia. Read the live text commentary here.
