USA played amazing defence, says Kubiak

USA celebrate another victory over Poland in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball World League

Hoffman Estates, USA, June 13, 2015 – USA won their sixth match in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the expense of world champions Poland in four sets on Saturday at the Sears Centre Arena.

USA coach John Speraw: “When you play these back-to-back matches they are always very different. Often players that have a really good night at one night aren’t as good in the next. For our team, we had some players who maybe weren’t as good as they were last night. But we had Aaron Russell come back and play exceptionally well for us.”

USA player Russell Holmes: “There is something we talk about a lot as a team, especially in these matches against such a strong team that we have to play back-to-back, is that it’s going to be intense emotionally and physically on us as a team. I thought our guys did a great job managing those aspects of the game – staying in control of our emotions and playing steady. We are surrounded by great staff that helps us out with the physical aspect of recovering from the first night and being prepared for the second night. I though our guys came out with great energy and focus.”

Poland coach Stephane Antiga: “Tonight we had our chance in the second set and then it was a lesson. I was pretty impressed with the level of block. I knew that USA could play so well in block defence. We have improved (our block) a lot. We lost our passion, which I think would explain our hitting mistakes. They wanted to score and we know what we have to improve on.”

Poland captain Michal Kubiak: “USA played really good volleyball. We started the first set the way we wanted but we couldn’t keep the rhythm of our play in the first set. They played amazing defence. We couldn’t score even one block. It was an amazing game played by USA.
