Australia look on as Brazil score

Sydney, Australia, June 28, 2015 - Ricardo Lucarelli Santos De Souza led Brazil to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15) win in Sydney to increase their lead at the top of Pool A. Lucarelli hits 15 points as Australia are again no match for the league leaders.

Both sides were looking to assert some early control on the tie but both exchanged early points before Australia sneaked ahead 9-7 at the first technical time-out. Brazil fought back with Ricardo Lucarelli Santos De Souza leading from the front for Brazil before the tie was levelled up by Australia as both teams hit 19-19. Late controversy in the set saw Australia called for a carry and it seemed to affect the home side as Brazil wrapped up the set 25-22 to take a 1-0 lead in the tie.

The end to the first set seemed to still weigh on the Australian's minds as they quickly found themselves 4-2 down in set two. However they recoved their composure to level to set at 8-8 with Thomas Edgar continuing his impressive 2015 World League leading Australia in points. The set ebbed and flowed until Brazil made the first break for the line taking a 16-14 lead and they increased their lead to wrap up the second set 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead.

Lucarelli continued his impressive game, already with 13 points after set two and leading Brazil into an early 9-5 lead in set three as they looked to wrap up the win. With Leandro Vissotto Neves in fine blocking form for Brazil, the away side increased their lead to 19-12 with the writing on the wall for Australia. The tie was duly wrapped up in double quick time as Brazil took the third set 25-15 for a 3-0 victory over the hosts.
