Brilliant Brazil banish Serbia

Wallace was top scorer as the Brazilians swept Serbia aside

Belo Horizonte, Brazil, May 31, 2015 – Brazil beat Serbia 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22) in their 2015 FiVB World League clash on Sunday.

Serbia’s Uros Kovacevic was highly impressive in the first set, but with William Arjona, Isac and Wallace – who are all Sada Cruzeiro teammates – combining to excellent effect, the Brazilians had more team power in the first set, winning it 25-18.

The second set saw the Serbs start stronger, with Aleksandar Atanasijevic catching the eye with some fine spikes, but with Wallace and Lucarelli on top form, Brazil caught up and again got on top. They took the set 25-20. Set three saw Serbia, spearheaded by Kovacevic, finally show their potential. Excellent serving, blocking and spiking finally started to breach Brazil’s famous defence, and the Europeans took the set 25-19.

But Brazil aren’t considered one of the favourites to win the FIVB World League for nothing; in set four they again showcased their full range of skills, with Wallace hitting great aces and kills. Serbia fought back and briefly levelled the scores, but the South Americans’s wealth of attacking options eventually prevailed. They won the final set 25-22, and the match, 3-1. Wallace was the top scorer for Brazil with 19, Uros Kovacevic got 17 for Serbia. Enjoy the text commentary of the game here
