Zhang Zhejia stands out in straight-set triumph of China

 

China are the winners in Tepic, Mexico with three victories

Tepic, Mexico, June 14, 2015 – China had a lethal combination of attackers that swept hosts Mexico 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) in Pool G of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Auditorio de la Gente on Sunday.

China’s Zhang Zhejia scored 13 points to lead his team, while team-mates Yuan Zhi, Zhang Chen, Geng Xin all scored in double figures, to outscore Mexican point leaders Jorge Barajas and Julian Duarte, who only scored nine and eight points, respectively.

China started strong in the first set with an 8-4 advantage in the first technical timeout. Mexico somehow managed to deadlock but China always responded with a string of points to edge the hosts and conclude the first set 25-21.

China jumped to another lead 8-5 but an exchange in service errors kept the game close in the second set. China finally found their rhythm and their attackers started bombarding the Mexican defence. Mexico retaliated and moved closer until they tied the score at 20-all. China still owned the second set 25-22, as Mexicans Jorge Barajas and Pedro Rangel scored their final two points.

China and Mexico traded points in the third set until it ended in the deadlock of 15-all. China saw an opening and led by two points at 19-17, until Yuan Zhi, Zhang Zhejia and Zhang Chen took over in the end game to seal the third set 25-21.
