Cuk's powerful serve leads Montenegro to victory

 

Podgorica, Montenegro, June 1, 2015 - Montenegro took a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 26-23, 25-23) victory over Turkey in their first ever FIVB Volleyball World League encounter on Sunday.

Gungor opened the game very strong, with the great plays in the service and attack, giving Turkey 7-3 lead. Montenegro responded immediately and tied the score at 8-8 and the hosting team took the lead at 11-9. Turkey managed to stay 16-15 ahead by the second technical time out, but Montenegro fought back. An ace by Cacic and attack by Bojic allowed Montenegro to score 22-20. Culafic closed the set with an ace at 25-22 for the hosting team.

Turkey started the 2nd set with the 5-2 lead as Montenegro couldn't find the solution to Gokgoz's service. Turkey maintain their lead at 14-10 and 16-12, while the hosting team struggled in reception. Gokgoz remained a leader of team Turkey in attack and service at 22-17 ahead of Montenegro. Turkey lost their huge lead to 23-22, when Minic put them in trouble with his serve. At least Turkey won the 2nd set with a little help from the rival.

Cuk fired from the service line giving the hosting team 6-4 in the third set. Montenegro's Bojic got injured, but the team went back on track forcing Turkey to take the time-out at 12-9 . Gokgoz showed his power at the service line and tied the score at 14-14. Montenegro managed to go 16-14 ahead, but Turkey chased the score to 18-18. Intense plays trading points from both sides and it was an ace that closed the set again for Montenegro 26-24.

Gungor started off the 4th set, keeping the score tie, but Montenegro still led 8-6 at the 1st technical time-out. It as Gokgoz, who took it to 12-12 and Turkey went 16-14 ahead by the second technical time out. Cuk gave a show on the serve, forcing Turkey to call the time out at 21-18 for Montenegro. Bojic came back on court just to give his team the first match point, but Turkey managed to save two points. It was Minic, who finished the game with a spike at 25-23.
