Russia aiming for first victory

 

Head-to-Head

· This will be the 20th and 21st match between these teams in the World League. Poland won six of the previous 19, including the last two.
· They have already met twice in this year's World League. Both matches were won by Poland: 3-0 and 3-2.
· The last Russian win came in the 2011 semifinal when they won in four sets.
· Poland's Bartosz Kurek (38 points) and Mateusz Mika (33) both scored more than 30 points in this year's matches against Russia. Top scorer for Russia in these matches was Denis Biriukov with 26 points.

Russia

· Russia have lost their last seven World League matches and only once recorded a longer losing streak when they lost 10 in a row in 1997.
· They can also lose back-to-back World League matches by 3-0 for the first time since 1997, when they lost 3-0 twice against Cuba.
· Russia have lost their last two matches World League in Kazan (both against Iran this season), after winning there eight in a row.
· A Russian player has yet to score 20 points in a World League match this season. Of all Group I teams, Italy also have yet to have a player scoring 20+ points.

Poland

· Poland have lost their last two World League matches. They lost three in a row in 2014 and they can lose four in a row for the first time since 2013.
· Bartosz Kurek scored 30 points against Iran on 5 June. This is still the most points by one player in a match this season (all groups).
· Bartosz is also top scorer among all group I players with 126 points. He is followed by Australia's Thomas Edgar (111 points).
· Bartosz has also won 113 spikes, most among group I players.
