Ashchev: "It seems we don’t believe in our strength any more"

Matthew Anderson hits through the triple Russian block

Kaliningrad, Russia, June 26, 2015 - Olympic champions Russia conceded
another defeat tonight with captain Andrey Ashchev hoping his team can
turn things around in their second match against the USA this weekend.

Russia captain Andrey Ashchev said: "I can’t find the words. We lost in all elements. Hopefully we will play differently tomorrow. We have lost so many matches, it seems we don’t believe in our strength any more. We will think what we can do in the match tomorrow."

Russia coach Andrey Voronkov said: "We worked on options when USA changed their positions. But unfortunately we couldn’t realise our plans. We were nervous again and made mistakes at the service. Anyway, the players wanted to fight and they did."

USA captain David Lee said: "It is never easy to play against Russia. We did our best today and used different ways to achieve the result."

USA coach John Speraw said: "We played very well today. It was worse last week, so we focused our attention on the game today. The crowd supported the hosts loudly, but it didn’t interfere with the game as it did in Iran."
