Iran captain Marouf: "USA played perfect volleyball"

The USA puts up a triple block against Iran

Los Angeles, California, USA, May 31, 2015 – The 2014 World League champions USA blocked out Iran 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) in Los Angeles, with Matt Anderson leading all scorers with 19.

USA Captain Paul Lotman: "To me it felt like a similar match to last night. We had a strong start in the first two sets and were playing really well. Iran played better in the third set. We lost our focus. Fortunately we recovered and regained the momentum and finished the match in four.”

USA coach John Speraw: “I was very happy with the way we started. I think Micah (Christenson) continues to improve in the way he runs our offence. The second and third sets were similar in some regards. Iran started serving the ball much tougher. They switched to jump serves. They were getting us to pass the ball off the net. When you’re playing that game with Iran, it can be very difficult. Their defence is very good and their transition is very good.”

Iran captain Saeid Marouf: “We didn’t do anything on the court. It was our worst performance, I think, in the last two or three years. The other side, USA, played perfect volleyball at a high level. We must learn a lot from the USA team today.”

Iran coach Slobodan Kovac: “USA played better than us again. It’s so difficult to say something; so many mistakes; no good face on the court. I’ve stayed with this team more than 60 matches and I see so many players afraid to play and make mistakes and I don’t know why… My team in general receives very well. In these two matches we received so badly. Only at some points did we play good volleyball.”
