Overview

Team profile

This is Egypt's fifth World League campaign and their first since 2010 when they finished 14th. Their best returns came in the three editions from 2006 to 2008 when they finished joint-13th on each occasion. At No.19, they are the highest-ranked country in this year's Pool H in Group 3 and will have home advantage when the week two matches take place in Cairo. Egypt ended joint-21st at last year's World Championship in Poland, after taking two points in five-set matches against Bulgaria and Mexico. Their highest finish in seven previous attempts was joint-13th place in Italy four years earlier.

Winners of the last five African Championships (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013), and seven overall, the African powerhouse hosts the 2015 edition. Other recent results include a 12th-place finish at the 2011 World Cup and joint-11th at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Egypt has a long volleyball history and was the first country to join the African Volleyball Federation. Before Africa had a solid volleyball structure Egypt competed in the 1955 and 1958 European championships and they will look to build on their rich history in the coming years. Their youth, junior and U23 teams all qualified for their respective world championships in 2013.
