Yosifov heads race in tie-break win of Bulgaria

 

Bulgaria's Danail Milushev made an off speed shot as he faced three Argentine defenders at the net

Salta, Argentina, June 20, 2015 – Bulgaria won the exciting race with a 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 26-24, 16-25, 18-16) win over hosts Argentina in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Estadio Delmi on Saturday.

Viktor Yosifov headed the Bulgarian camp with 16 points, while Jose Luis Gonzalez of Argentina finished with 15 markers.

Argentina and Bulgaria came up with strong spikes to open the match that resulted to a tight ball game. The set was tied at 8-all that neither team would pull away with more than a two-point lead. The match was again tied at 24-all when Milushev made two points on counterattacks to seal the first set win 26-24.

Argentina started better in the second set and reached an 11-8 advantage, until Bulgaria tied it at 11-all. Argentina climbed back and protected their lead and end the second set 25-20 with an attack by Sebastian Sole. In the third set, Argentina jumped to an 8-3 lead as setter Luciano De Cecco masterfully crafted outstanding plays for his attackers and pushed the advantage further at 14-9. Argentina were suddenly hurdled with errors that allowed Bulgaria to snatch the third set 26-24.

Luciano Zornetta helped Argentina to get back in the fourth set with excellent attacks. The fourth set went into Argentina’s favour when Yosifov’s attack went out of bounds 25-16. In the fifth set, Argentina were ahead 10-5 until they were badly stricken with errors that allowed Bulgaria to tie the score at 11-all and steal the lead at 13-11. Argentina had some more tricks in their bag and tied it at 14-all but Bulgaria finished the two-point race at 18-16 on their serve.
