Van Dijk and Kooy blow away Finland

The Dutch were too strong for the Finnish defence

Almere, Netherlands, 13 June, 2015 – Inspired by the brilliant offensive play of Kay Van Dijk and Dick Kooy, the Netherlands beat Finland 3-0 (25-20, 25-14. 25-18) to continue their impressive World League campaign.

The match started evenly, with the score running up to 9-9 in the first set, but excellent play from Kay Van Dijk and Dick Kooy proved to be the difference between the two sides, and Netherlands took the set 25-20.

The Dutch duo's dominance continued in set two. Ably assisted by some great digging from Kooy, they countered good work from Finns Urpo Sivula, Sauli Sinkkonen and Tomi Rumpunen to give the Netherlands an easy win in the second set, 25-14. And it was more of the same in set three, with Kooy and Van Dijk – as well as the Dutch defence – just too strong for the Finns. They took set three 25-18, to win 3-0.

Kooy was the top scorer for the Netherlands with 20 points, while Sivula got 12 for the Finns. Read the match text commentary here.
