Sole leads Argentina into second place in Pool C

Palacios spikes past Todorov and Zhekov

Salta, Argentina, June 21, 2015 - Sebastian Sole led Argentina to a comfortable 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) victory in Salta in front of a vocal home crowd to leapfrog opponents Bulgaria into second place behind leaders Canada in Pool C.

Both sides started the game exchanging points and reaching 4-4 before Argentina sparked into life to open up a three point gap at 8-5. From this point Bulgaria were trying to play catch-up but the lead increased to five points as Argentina hit midway in the set 15-10 in front. Argentina were now in cruise control and edged further into the lead before rounding off the first set with a 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead in the tie.

Argentina were on the front-foot straight away in set two with Sebastian Sole beginning to make his mark on the scoring and opening up a four point gap for Argentina. At 10-5 it seemed ominous for Bulgaria with Argentina roared on by vocal home support and it only got worse for the European side as they were soon 15-6 behind. Brief hope of a comeback entailed as Bulgaria picked up three from the next four points and Bulgaria continued to claw back points but the deficit was too much as Argentina held on for a 25-19 second set win to go go 2-0 in front.

Argentina again were first out of the blocks thanks once again to Sole and a series of errors from Bulgaria who were beginning to rack them up. At 8-4, Argentina were heading for victory with Bulgaria needing to focus quickly if they were to take it into a fourth set. At 16-13 the home side were keeping Bulgaria at bay and they duly sent to the home crowd wild to record a 25-16 win for a 3-0 victory.
