Perrin steps up to snap Canadian losing streak

 

Canada managed to split victories with Bulgaria in Pool C, as they took a 3-1 win over the visiting team on the fifth week of the FIVB Volleyball World League

Summerside, Canada, June 13, 2015 – John Gordon Perrin topscored for Canada with 17 points, to contribute for his team’s 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20) triumph over Bulgaria in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Credit Union Place on Saturday.

Perrin had a scoring contest with Bulgaria’s Miroslav Gradinarov, who finished with a match-high of 18 points. Perrin’s team-mates Steven Marshall and Max Burt scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. Bulgarian scorers Todor Skrimov and Teodor Todorov matched Marshall and Burt’s output.

Canada entered the match with intense focus and convincingly grabbed the first and second sets at 25-18 and 25-19, respectively. Bulgaria suddenly changed the tempo of their game and took an 8-2 lead in the third set. With some help from the crowd, Canada were able to cut down the lead to within four 14-10 until Bulgaria managed to keep their lead and secure the third set 25-21.

Canada regained their focus and controlled the fifth set 25-20 to snap a two-match losing skid, while their opponents’ three-match winning streak ended.
