Excellent substitutions key to Argentine victory

Argentina used their excellent substitution strategy to seize a 3-2 win over Canada in the FIVB Volleyball World League

Halifax, Canada, June 6, 2015 – Argentina seized a 3-2 win over Canada to equalise their series in Halifax at the FIVB Volleyball World League on Saturday.

Argentina assistant coach Julian Alvarez: “I think we played a really good game with ups and downs. We had strong and weak points. Our substitutions were excellent today and it was a really fair game. Canada are a strong team.”

Argentina captain Demian Gonzalez: “It was a really hard game. There were moments where we were playing really good and other parts like the third set, where we were making some mistakes that brought our game down. We all got a chance to play and it was a close game because our opponents are strong. It was hard because we were devastated from yesterday but we came for the win and we are taking it to Cuba.”

Canada coach Glenn Hoag: “We couldn’t put Argentina in trouble with our serving, so they were running their offence freely. We had our chances at times, but our team was again, at times undisciplined, so we ended up not being able to do simple things that would have allowed us to win the game. They do that very well, they are very skilled.”

Canada captain Frederic Winters: “They played the same game (as yesterday), a lot with their middle attackers and were really efficient. Our offence wasn’t as good as it was last night, so I think that was the difference. We weren’t as efficient in attack. They are small and very skilled, and their reception was also very good tonight.”
