Cepeda leads Cuba in redeeming 3-1 win over Argentina

Cuba were explosive in their home match this time as they took a 3-1 victory over Argentina

Havana, Cuba, June 12, 2015 – Captain Rolando Cepeda scored 21 points to lead Cuba to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21) win over Argentina in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball World League, to earn their first home victory at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum on Friday.

With the fans on their side, the Cubans won the first set 25-20 in only half an hour. Javier Jimenez showed leadership as what coach Rodolfo Sanchez expected of him, but Cepeda was the real hero in the match.

In the second set, Cuba performed well and quickly made the Argentine efforts to bounce back in vain. Osmany Uriarte combined with Cepeda to destroy the visiting side's defence to pull off a 25-21 win in the set.

Cuba began to relax in the third set, while Argentina showed their excellent attitude on court. Coach Sanchez gave his starters some rest and fielded in the Cuban youngster Luis Elian Estrada. However, Pablo Crer's spikes effectively brought Argentina to life with a 25-20 win in the set.

The fourth set was very intense as both teams worked well at the net - responding with blocks on both ends. Cuba exploded after the second technical timeout and gained control of the set and match 25-21.
