Andrey Zhekov: "We believed in ourselves"

Argentina and Bulgaria at the post-match press conference

Salta, Argentina, June 20, 2015 - After a nail-biting five sets, Bulgaria achieved a well-celebrated win over Argentina, as they kept their cool in key moments of the match in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Estadio Delmi on Saturday.

Bulgaria captain Andrey Zhekov: "It was a really good game, with high volleyball level. We won not only because we were a bit lucky, but also because of an important thing - we fought until the end. We believed in ourselves and acted like a team."

Bulgaria coach Plamen Konstantinov: "I absolutely agree with Andrey (Zhekov). It was a very good match. I think the fans enjoyed it very much. The most important thing was to stay there until the end. In difficult moments we managed to come back, we did it in a couple of sets and that allowed us to have this victory."

Argentina player Jose Luis Gonzalez: "I want to congratulate Bulgaria for the closely contested game. The difference was that we made some mistakes on the attack in several moments of the match. I also want to compliment the amazing crowd of Salta and we hope that we can reward these people with a win in the re-match tomorrow.”

Argentina coach Julio Velasco: "I agree with all that has been said and I would add that we didn't play well on serving in the first part of the match. We managed to be steadier afterwards and we created some problems in our opponents’ reception. However, we made important errors, sometimes against a single block or even without block, and that had a major influence on this defeat."
