Poland's Michal Kubiak overcomes Italy's double block
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 16, 2015 – Poland recorded a 3-1 (25-15, 27-25, 20-25, 25-20) victory over Italy on their debut in World League Finals. The current world champion team had a great performance, especially Michal Kubiak. The polish spiker attacked and blocked well during the match and scored 19 points while Filippo Lanza scored 14 points for Italy.
Poland established total control during the completely one-sided first set. The polish team opened with a 5-0 lead and forced Mauro Berruto to call a time-out, which didn’t work. The current world champion team caused problems with good services and defense. Actually they didn’t face many issues to conclude the set: 25-15. Rafal Buzsek hit two aces and scored six points for Poland on the first set.
The second set started more competitively and the first technical time-out came with the polish team leading by 8-7. Smart spikes by Luca Vettori helped Italy to reach the second technical time-out leading by 16-14. Italians had a set-point on their favor, but Poland reacts and concluded the set with two aces by Michal Kubiak: 27-25.
The Italian team surprised on third set and lead by 20-12 with a good offence. Kubiak then performed three blocks in a row and reduced to 20-16, but Italy was able to win the set by 25-20. On the fourth set, Poland regained the control of the match with Kubiak being the main weapon of the team. The Polish team scored 25-20.
