Overview

Team profile

As one of the most consistent competitors in the World League, the Brazil team will be aiming to go one better than they did in the last two editions, when they finished second to USA and Russia respectively. They are assured a place in this year's final round in Rio de Janeiro as hosts. Brazil went close to winning last year's World Championship in Poland, losing in the final to an impressive host nation and they were runners-up to Russia at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Although they were pushed all the way by Argentina, Brazil won the 2013 South American Championship, thereby qualifying for the 2013 World Grand Champions Cup, a tournament they went on to win for the fourth time in Kyoto.

During the 13-year tenure of renowned coach Bernardo 'Bernardinho' Rezende, Brazil have at times seemed unstoppable, collecting plenty of trophies along the way. Rezende led the team to the 2001 World League title in his first outing and they claimed the championship in successive years from 2003 to 2007. The Brazilians won back-to-back World League titles again in 2009 and 2010, three successive titles at the World Championship (2002, 2006, 2010) and two at the World Cup (2003 and 2007).
