Stokr leads Czechs to five set victory

The Czechs celebrate winning a point

Liberec, Czech Republic, June 26, 2015 - The Czech team won a thrilling battle against Korea 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-12) in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the Home Credit Arena in Liberec.

Jan Stokr (19 points) and Tomas Fila (12) were both in double digits as the hosts recovered from losing sets two and three to win a five set thriller. The first set had started well for coach Zdenek Smejkal's men, even if Korea only ever trailed by a few points. Set two, however, went the other way, with Korea always slightly ahead. Taking confidence from their positive run, the Koreans were still more convincing in the third, leading by seven points at 10-17.

Losing the third set, however, sparked a remarkable comeback for the locals, cheered on by the Liberec crowd. Set four again saw the two teams closely matched, but at two-all it looked unlikely the Czechs were going to ease their grip on this match. Fila helped his team to 6-2, before the locals led 11-4. The visitors battled back to 14-11, but could go no further.
