Kunihiro Shimizu strings 23 for Japan in three sets at Opava

Yet another spike from Japan's captain gives the Czechs some hard time

Opava, Czech Republic, July 3, 2015 – Japan cruised to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) win against the home side of the Czech Republic in their Pool D match of the FIVB Volleyball World League 2015.  Kunihiro Shimizu carried this success on his wings scoring as many as 23 points in the three sets of this game.  Jan Stokr’s 14 points made him the best scorer for the European squad.

The first set was quite competitive through 10-10, after which Japan broke away with a series of unanswered points.  Despite some good serving from Adam Bartos, the Czechs could not quite catch up and in the conclusive moments of the set the Asian team dominated for a 25-21 win.  Jan Stokr and his teammates did their best to stay more competitive in the second set, but the Japanese continued putting on a great performance to hammer out another 25-21 at the end of the set.  Part 3 was the most interesting one in the match.  The home team battled hard looking for a way to turn things around and after a huge spike from Stokr they were in the lead by 20-19.  At 22-22 it was anyone’s set, but it was again the Japanese who came out on top by 25-23 shaped up on their second match point.
