Korea eyeing rare winning streak

 

Head-to-head
· This match will feature the two most experienced teams from Asia at the World League. Japan has played 270 matches (W61-L209) and Korea Republic 212 (W50-L162).
· The teams have met each other 12 times before in the competition and Korea holds the upper hand: eight wins against four for Japan.
· This will be their third meeting in the 2015 edition. Japan won 3-1 on 13 June, Korea 3-0 on 14 June.
· Only one of their previous 12 matches was played over five sets, as their very first meeting in 1991 ended in a 3-2 win for Japan.

Japan
· Japan have lost four of their last five World League matches. Their sole win in this period was their 3-1 victory over Korea on 13 June.
· So far they have only won a total of eight sets in their six matches this tournament.
· Japan have lost a record 209 matches at the World League. Opponents Korea are in second place with 162 defeats.
· Kunihiro Shimizu is the team's top scorer with 78 points.

Korea Republic
· Korea are coming of a 3-0 win against Japan and can win back-to-back World League matches for the first time since 2013 when they beat Portugal twice.
· If Korea beat Japan twice it will be the first time since 1995 they set a streak of three consecutive wins. That streak included two wins over Japan as well as a victory against China.
· Their win against Japan last weekend on 14 June was their 50th in the World League.
· Coming into the weekend Myung-Geun Song (103) is one of only 10 players with more than 100 points scored in the 2015 World League.
