Canada poised for success against South American opponents

Pool C: Canada - Argentina (5 and 6 June)

Head-to-Head
• These teams have met four times in the World League with both Canada and Argentina winning twice.
• All four meetings came in 2000. Canada won the first two (both in five sets) and Argentina the last two (3-0 and 3-1).
• Canada have won only one of their last 11 World League matches against South American teams, losing the last four.
• Canada beat Argentina 3-2 at the 2006 World Championships.

Canada
• Canada have started their 2015 campaign with a win (3-1) and a loss (3-2) against Bulgaria.
• Last year saw Canada lose back-to-back matches on two occasions, but they have not lost three in a row since a streak of nine defeats in 2012.
• Canada have won their last three home matches, two in Calgary and one in Edmonton.
• Ciaran McGovern will celebrate his 26th birthday on the day of the first meet (5 June). 

Argentina
• Argentina can lose back-to-back matches for the first time since suffering 13 consecutive defeats from 2013-2014.
• Argentina lost their most recent match against Cuba on 30 May in five sets. At the World League, they have now only managed to win one of their last six five-setters (3-2 win against France in 2014).
• Their last World League match outside of Argentina ended in a 3-1 defeat against France in Paris, which ended a five-match winning streak for Argentina outside of their home country.
