Argentina sweep Cuba to split victories in Havana

Havana, Cuba, June 13, 2015 – Argentina dominated Cuba 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) to split victories at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball World League on Saturday.

Argentina’s Jose Luis Gonzalez and Cuba’s Osmany Santiago Uriarte shared the scoring limelight with 12 points apiece. Argentina slightly edged Cuba in attacks 39-35 but the former had lesser errors in the match.

Argentina started strong in the match opener but Cuba stole the lead 8-6 at the first technical timeout. Argentina and Cuba raced to the end of the first set until Cuba gained advantage 23-22 from two blocks. Argentina retaliated with three consecutive points to close the first set 25-23.

Argentina easily controlled the Cuban upsurge and took the second set win 25-18. In the third set, Cuba had a sluggish start but managed to tie the score at 9-all. Argentina took its cue at 21-20 and limited Cuba to score only one point before the visiting side concluded the set and match with an ace 25-21.
