Iran seek for 3-0 or 3-1 win to overtake Poland

 

Head-to-Head

• Poland have won their last four World League matches against Iran after losing the first two.
• They beat Iran 3-1 and 3-2 at home this season, with Bartosz Kurek scoring 30 points for them in the 3-1 victory on 5 June.
• Seyed Mohammad Mousavi Eraghi had six blocks in Iran's 3-2 defeat against Poland on 6 June.
• Poland also defeated Iran 16-14 in the fifth set at the 2014 World Championships.

Iran

• Iran can overtake Poland in second place in Pool B as long as they win twice and as long as both victories are not by 3-2.
• Iran are hoping to reach the Final Six for the second time. They came fourth in the competition last season.
• Have won their last four after starting their 2015 campaign off with four consecutive defeats.
• Their four-match winning run is equal to their team record in the competition. They also won four straight in June of 2014.
• They have won three in a row in straight sets, something they had not previously achieved in the competition. In fact, their previous 31 World League matches contained only four victories in straight sets.

Poland

• Poland can seal their berth in the Final Six with two victories this weekend. 
• If they succeed they will earn their first trip to the Final Six since 2012, the only year in which they won the trophy.
• They started off their 2015 campaign with four straight wins, proceeded with two defeats against United States, before defeating Russia twice.
• Their first match this season was a 3-0 victory over Russia. None of their next seven finished in straight sets, regardless of whether they won or lost.
• Bartosz Kurek is the leading scorer in Group 1 by some margin. His 175 points are 60 more than the 115 by Matthew Anderson (USA).
