Tunisia made their World League debut last season and were the sole African representatives in the competition. Their only win was a five-set victory over Mexico as they finished bottom of Pool F and joint-last in Group 3 with Puerto Rico. This year they are the highest-ranked side in Group 3 Pool F and will play Montenegro, Puerto Rico and Turkey. The 2014 World Championship was next on the agenda for Tunisia and they finished bottom of a pool that included Brazil and Germany. Their only point came from a five-set defeat to Cuba and they were ranked joint-21st overall.
In 2013 Tunisia finished second at the Mediterranean Games and African Championship, a defeat by Egypt denying them the gold medal in the latter. The eight-time continental champions have participated in six Olympic Games, with a best finish of ninth at Los Angeles 1984. At London 2012 they lost all five matches and won just one set. They have competed at every World Championship since 2002 but have recorded just three victories, all in 2006. At continental level, they have won a medal at each African Championship they have competed in, apart from in 2009 when they finished fifth. In 2013 their youngsters posted an eighth-place finish at the World Under-23 Championship.
