Their lead extended to night points at 16-7 with the Czech Republic fighting to rein in Ngapeth who was 100% in his spiking succes at this point of the game. A brief fightback saw the lead reduced to four but the French again found their form to take the second set 25-20 for a 2-0 lead.
The Czech Republic side were in need of a good start to the third set to give them hope of extending the tie but were again behind in the early stages as France opened up a 5-8 lead. Again the Czech Republic fought back to this time edge in front 10-9 and seemed to have the momentum as the set reached its middle point.
