Anderson and Troy lead USA assault for tie-break win

 

USA put on a rampage in the fifth set to win over Poland in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball World League

Hoffman Estates, USA, June 12, 2015 – Matthew Anderson and Murphy Troy scored 20 and 17 points, respectively, to help USA gain control of the fifth set after trailing Poland and win 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 15-9) in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Sear’s Centre Arena on Friday.

Bartosz Kurek led all scorers with 24 points, while four other starters from Poland scored in double figures. USA, however, served better than the visiting team with six aces in the match.

USA and Poland traded with set victories from first to fourth sets. The match-up between the two squads seemed equal with Poland slightly gaining edge with a better finish in the third set. USA then countered well in the fourth set and carried their momentum to the deciding set.

USA opened the tie-breaker with a 6-3 lead but Poland pulled to within two at 8-6. Anderson scored on two attacks to put USA ahead 10-6 and Troy joined in to put USA with an even better advantage 13-7. USA managed to score the remaining two points to seal their fifth set victory 15-9.
