Russell Holmes was born on July 1, 1982 in Anaheim, Calif. He grew up in Fountain Valley, Calif. The middle blocker (205 cm, 95 kg) played his collegiate years at BYU where he was named AVCA All-American and also earned All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation First Team accolades for his accomplishments as a senior. After his collegiate career, Holmes traveled overseas and played for Austria’s HYPO TIROL in the Middle European Volleyball Zone Association where he helped lead the team to winning the MEVZA Cup and the Austrian Cup.Holmes joined the US National Team in 2009 and was a member of the 2012 Olympic Team. He won a World League gold medal with the team in 2014 and a silver medal in 2012. Holmes has a daughter, Sadie Rae, who was born in July of 2007. He has played professionally in Brazil, Turkey and Poland.
