Serbia chase victory against Poland

Head-to-head

·    This will be the first World League meeting between these teams since Serbia beat Poland 3-0 in the 2008 Final Round.
·    In total, these teams have met each other 16 times in the competition. Serbia (including Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro) hold the upper hand: 11 wins to five.
·    Serbia have won six of their last seven World League matches against Poland. Poland's only win in this span was a 3-1 victory in the 2006 Intercontinental Rounds.
·    These teams also met in the first round of the 2014 world championships in which Poland beat Serbia in straight sets.

Serbia

·    Serbia can reach the semifinals with a victory against Poland. Any triumph will do, but any form of defeat will see them pack their bags.
·    Serbia are already guaranteed their best  finish since coming third in 2010.
·    Serbia have never won the World League. Their best finish is runners-up, which they achieved on four separate occasions, most recently in 2009.
·    Serbia have won at least two sets in each of their last 12 World League matches.

Poland

·    With their 3-1 win over Italy on Thursday, Poland became the first team to qualify for the semifinals. Their three match points ensure that they cannot be overtaken by the Italians.
·    Idle Italy must hope that Poland are hungry for more, because a Serbia win would seal their fate.
·    Poland are guaranteed their fifth Top 4 finish in the competition.
·    Poland are seeking their second World League title. In 2012, they won the competition for the first time. Last year, they finished eighth.
·    None of the last 12 WL matches involving Poland has resulted in a straight sets victory, for either side.
