Last two World League winners go head-to-head

 

Head-to-Head
· The World League winners of the last two editions will meet in this match: United States (2014) and Russia (2013).
· They have met 24 times before in the competition with United States winning on nine occasions and Russia (incl. CIS and URS) the other 15 encounters.
· In 2014, these teams were also drawn in Pool B. United States won three of their four meetings that campaign (3-2, 3-0, 3-2). Russia won the last in straight sets.
· Maxwell Holt (USA) plays in Russia at Dinamo Moscow, David Lee (USA) at Lokomotiv Nobosibirsk and Matthew Anderson (USA) at Zenit Kazan.

United States
· United States have won their opening two matches of their 2015 World League campaign. In 2014, they won their first seven matches.
· They have won their last five World League matches – including the 2014 final - losing only four sets and never more than one per match.
· Their second match of the weekend will be United States' 250th in the competition. Their record coming into this weekend: W131-L117, 487 sets won and 461 sets lost.
· United States have won their last four World League matches played in Long Beach, California. Two of these matches were against Russia.

Russia
· If Russia suffer two defeats against United States they will lose five consecutive World League matches (including last match of 2014) for the first time since a 10-match losing streak in 1997.
· Last season, their already suffered a four-match losing streak.
· Russia have lost five of their last six five-setters, including two against United States.
· These will be their seventh and eighth consecutive World League away matches, since hosting United States in Kaliningrad in June 2014.
