Brazil looking for response after loss to France

Head-to-head
· This match is a repeat of last year's final in which United States proved too strong: 3-1.
· In total, Brazil and United States have met each other 36 times in the World League. Brazil have won 26 times, United States 10.
· Looking at Final Round matches only, United States hold the upper hand as they won have won four of their six Final Round matches against Brazil.
· This match-up has also twice been the final at the Olympic Games. In 1984 in Los Angeles, United States beat Brazil in straight sets and in Beijing in 2008 United States again prevailed (3-1).

Brazil
· Brazil can lose three matches in a row for the first time since losing the 2013 final and the first two matches of 2014.
· In 2013, Brazil lost their first match in the final round, but still reached the final, which they lost to Russia.
· Brazil (502) and France (500) crossed the mark of 500 conceded sets in World League history in Brazil's 3-1 defeat against the French.
· Brazil have been ranked outside the top 2 only once in the previous six seasons – sixth in 2012. This was the last time they lost their first two matches in the final round. 

United States
· Defending champions United States are aiming to become the first team to retain their World League title since Brazil in 2009 and 2010.
· United States also won the title in 2008. A third gold medal would put them on a par with Russia behind only Brazil (9 gold medals) and Italy (8).
· United States also finished second on one occasions (2012) and took the bronze medal twice (1992, 2007).
· On the last five occasions United States reached the Final Round (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014) they lost the first match of this stage of the tournament. They still went on to reach the final in 2008 (W), 2012 (L) and 2014 (W).
· Matthew Anderson is United States' top scorer with 166 points.
